ORC WEEK 1 : One Room Challenge

THE CONCEPT: Over the past few weeks, I’ve been preparing and implementing the Modern Glam nursery design. Now it’s time to take you along the design process with me and my Better Homes & Gardens One Room Challenge friends.

I wasn’t able to just let a good nursery design opportunity slip away. Even though with everything going on right now, it would have been a good idea. Nurseries are just too fun to pass up. So I dove in feet first with a few fantastic inspirations to lean on.

Applied wall paneling is the hot trend in the home design these days, and I couldn’t resist but join the action. But it just seemed too sophisticated for a baby room, so when I came across this hand-painted version on Pinterest, it felt like I struck gold. Painting imperfect lines are right up my alley, and the light whimsey this solution would bring will be just right.

Another design inspiration was this beautiful design by Emma J Shipley, a graphic artist out of London. This little pillow has been on the board since the inception of this room concept. The light-hearted pattern is so elegant but sweet at the same time. Love the rich colors that pull blue and black together seamlessly. This color scheme allowed me to reuse the swivel rocker we already owned without recovering it. Not your typical baby room pillow, that is for sure.

Lastly, these sconces have been begging me to use them for months. The original concept included a hand-painted wall covering across the field of the wall. But when I switched to a “paneling” design, I knew dramatic sconces would be an incredible addition to add a little drama. And bonus points because they come from one of my favorite stores WestElm.
