Quick Living Room Refresh

Two months ago I moved into a new house. Typically I have designed then built homes we lived in, but this one was different. There has been a bit of adapting moving into a home built in the late '90s.

While I get my designs together to refinish and rework these existing spaces, it has been fun to try to make what I already had work in these areas. ESPECIALLY because all designers know their personal spaces typically come second to clients' spaces. Or is that what I'm doing now by procrastinating the home revamp!?!

Surprisingly the custom curtains from the other house worked perfectly in this space. The oversized sofa fits this much smaller living room, which was very exciting!!! Our Swedish linen side chairs get more "baby" use in this centralized location, but that's life.

The oversized weave jute rug provides a casual layer to what could be a traditional space. And I did give in and buy a new rug from Wayfair because it was too pretty to pass up.

A gateleg table grounds the far corner of this room with its deep color and large scale. It works well to serve as a sizeable usable surface for everyday life. But it's also positioned by the back door to set things down on the way out, keep the dog's leash on, hold a basket of baseball mitts and serve as a central point in the house. This little $200 antique store find has become an everyday staple.

This comfortable living space came together incredibly easily. And it will thankfully last us while we focus on some other areas that need love.

Here are some before pictures. The previous homeowners staged the property simply. It’s amazing what a little character has brought to this space. I’ll be reworking the millwork next to the fireplace soon to provide some desperately needed storage.
